Principal's News...
Dear Parents,
Over the years we have seen some spectacular costumes during our Book Week celebrations. I am sure we will not be disappointed this year as we celebrate Book Week 2022. The costume creation always provides a great opportunity to work with your children to create wonderful memories together. If you haven’t already completed your costumes for next Tuesday’s parade, I wish you well in finding your inner-seamster over the weekend. Remember to link your costume to a Book and try to incorporate this year’s theme, “Dreaming with Eyes Open.”
Following on from our successful Year 2 Parent Community Night earlier in the term, we will be holding our Kindergarten Parent Community Night next Tuesday from 5:30pm to 7pm. If you have not already registered, please see correspondence from our Kindergarten team and follow the links to register your intention to attend. I look forward to supporting the evening to help build stringer relationships within our school community.
Next Monday we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. This is a particularly significant day in the Catholic Church and therefore considered a Holy Day of Obligation. On this day, we commemorate the assumption of the body of Mary, mother of Jesus Christ following her death. We will be celebrating Mass as a whole school next Monday at 2:30pm. I invite all members of our school family to celebrate with us.
Peace in Christ
Dan Gubby

Assistant Principal Mission News...
Saint Mary MacKillop
The 8th of August was the feast day of Mary Mackillop, our Australian Saint. Mary MacKillop was one of the founders of the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart. Without Mary and her devoted sisters, our country would not have seen the establishment of so many country Catholic Primary schools during colonial Australia.
It is hard to imagine the challenges these women would have faced travelling throughout the rugged Australian bushland before the establishment of modern roads. To put this in perspective, it used to take my great grandfather 24 hours on a Cobb and Co Coach to travel from the Tweed to Brisbane. Imagine travelling all around the country during those times. For the Sisters of St Joseph, it was an amazing demonstration of faith in God and acting out St Mary’s famous saying of “Never see a need without doing something about it”.
School Disco
The SRC students are organising a school disco on Friday the 19th of August. This will be the first disco in two years and I am sure it will be a great night together. The Kindergarten to Year 2 disco will be from 5.00 pm to 6.15 pm and the Year 3 to Year 6 students will be from 6.30 pm until 8.00 pm.

YEAR ONE WRITING
The students in Year One were blessed to have raised chickens, from eggs, in their class family this last fortnight. Their real-life learning experience in Science & Technology was purposeful as they witnessed the life cycle of a chicken. Check out their informative writing below, we have some budding authors.
Chickens
Chickens are birds, they are warm-blooded and are vertebrates. They have two legs and three talons on each foot. Chickens come in a variety of colours, they can be yellow, brown, black or white and they can be all different sizes. They start small and grow big. An interesting fact about chicks is that they are the closest animal to dinosaurs.

YEAR 4 MATHEMATICS
In Year Four the students have been learning about volume and capacity. They were set a challenge to determine how much water they drink in a day in both millilitres and litres. Through this inquiry, they used a range of skills including estimating, using measuring devices to compare capacity.

Congratulations to Alexandra Dogan who progressed to the Polding Athletics Carnival at Glendale in Newcastle next month. Alexandra came first in the 11 Years Girls 800m and 1500m. Congratulations Alexandra and good luck.

Richmond Zone Gala Day
The Richmond Zone Gala Day is an annual event on the Richmond Zone sports calendar for Year 6 that has been postponed the last three years for various reasons. This year, the Gala Day will be held in Week 5 on Friday, 19th August.
The Paul Wilson Memorial Football Challenge, Netball Challenge and Multi-Sports are played with the other eight Richmond Zone Catholic Primary Schools. The day is a fantastic opportunity to bring our school communities together and allow students to mix with other schools in the area and hopefully forge new friendships.
The winning school at Football and Netball will represent Richmond Zone at the Diocesan Gala Day in Grafton at the end of Term 3 (Wednesday, 21st September) and compete against the other three Lismore Diocese Sports Zones - Tweed, Clarence and Hastings. The winning schools at this event will be crowned Diocesan Champions.
